Shughart Excavating, on its excavation work

How a job is run

Out front it is Elwood B. Shughart & Sons Excavating. On the paperwork it reads Elwood B. Shughart & Son Excavating, Inc. Either way it is the same family business in Carlisle, working under the same license.

The ground decides what comes first, so every job starts with a free on-site consultation. After that comprehensive look, we can assess the kind of preparation your land needs, whether that is clearing and grubbing, grading, drainage, a demolition, or a septic system.

Then comes the rule we do not bend: we will not do any work without the project manager's go-ahead. Nothing is cut, cleared or torn down until that approval is in. On a septic job the project manager walks you through the whole process before work begins, and we work with the city to make sure the system is up to code and take care of getting the permits.

Our customers are commercial and residential: contractors, developers and homeowners. The commercial work happens in the tri-cities area, and the house lots and septic fields are in Carlisle and the surrounding areas. The full list of what we do is on the services page.

Dedication to Customer Excellence

A lot rarely needs just one thing. Trees come down, an old structure goes, the pad gets graded and the pipe goes in. When one company handles the clearing and grubbing, the demolition, the trucking and the finish-grading to sub-grade, nobody waits on a handoff and nobody argues over whose stretch of ground it was.

That is how we read the whole experience of excavation: the same family, the same project manager's approval, and one crew carrying the site. If you want to see how a specific job runs, start with site prep and grading.

  • Free on-site consultation before any estimate
  • No work without the project manager's go-ahead
  • Permits handled on septic installations
